Local Bookstore Appreciation Post & Book Haul

This past week I went to one of my new favourite local bookstores, Iron Dog Books. Iron Dog is an Indigenous-owned local bookstore and moving booktruck in Vancouver, BC, who are “dedicated to bringing low cost reading to Tsleil-Waututh, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Musqueam territories (metro Vancouver)”. Every time I go to this shop, I have such a positive experience, as staff are super friendly and always help me find the right book, and they give great recommendations as well! Definitely check this bookstore out : )

I was looking for the next book for my book club meeting, and instead I got totally distracted by all the beautiful books, and I ended up walking out of there with seven new books! This post is going to be a book haul of all the books – which happened to be all classics – that I picked up.

Just want to say that I don’t go book shopping often, because I prefer to buy a book after I’ve already read it and I know it’s something I love. However, I was feeling like book shopping for the first time in a while and I did get some really great finds!

The Secret Garden

These books are mostly all Paper Mill Press Classics editions, and they are absolutely beautiful. I’ve been wanting to read The Secret Garden for quite some time, since I adored the movie as a kid, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to buy a copy – just look how beautiful the cover is!

I know some people really don’t like this book, but it sounds like something I would really enjoy. While I wasn’t planning on buying a copy of it, when I saw this I thought why not? It’s nice to do a little book shopping here and there and get some fun things you wouldn’t normally pick up.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

So I have not yet read this book. However, the movie is one of my very favourites. I just love the story and the characters and I can’t wait to finally read the book – I’m sure it will be just as good, if not better. I’ve seen a lot of beautiful covers for this book, and I think this one is really great too especially with the colour scheme.

The Great Gatsby

Not going to lie to you here but I’ve read this book two times already and I still feel like I have a difficult time with it. I’ve been wanting to own a copy for a while because I want to read it again and be able to mark up the pages with notes and tabs. I have a hard time remembering what’s happened, or deciding if I like it, so I definitely want to delve into this again.

Wuthering Heights

I. love. this. book. I absolutely adore this book, and I felt like I definitely wanted to have a beautiful copy of it for myself. I 100% plan on re-reading this, because I first read it for class, soI was definitely approaching it differently than if I was to just read it for myself.

I highly recommend giving this a read.

Little Women

If I’m being honest, I just really want to watch Little Women with Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, Emma Watson, etc. However, I wanted to read the book first, so I picked up a copy of this as well, and I’m very excited for it!

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I think I’m most excited for this book. The plot just sounds really interesting to me, and I was also pulled in by the writing prcess of Robert Louis Stevenson. Apparently, he wrote the entire novel in three days (wow), and again in another three days after his wife burned it. That’s amazing. Read more about that here!

Also, I’ll be sure to review each of these on here when I get to them!

hi again if u find me im just spacing out the post lol hope your day is going well
